Beadwork

My love of beads as a medium goes back to 2009. After playing around with beading on a felt puppet project I realized that I could use beads like pointillism to create larger images. From there I used beads to create a series of portraits that was my exploration of the boundaries of fine art and kitsch. How far was too far before the beads crossed the line into tacky? At first the subject matter consisted of actresses from the Takarazuka theater in Japan as their over the top make up and costuming seemed to fit well with beads. The subjects of these pieces were never custom dolls. Click here to find out more about the process.
